Haute Couture SS16 Highlights

Haute Couture week is here again and it is when we see the beautiful collections which will next be seen at the major award shows. Also, a great deal of inspiration will come from these to the ready to wear and high street collections. I can see that huge ruffles and capes are going to be very popular!

Day 1

Altier Versace
Long, flowing dresses with cut out and rope detail were the order of the game for Donatella Versace, along with the trademark dark smoky eye and relaxed hair - giving the nod towards rock chic glamour.

Day 2

Dior
Jackets in a multitude of colours made up the majority of the collection. Sliced hemlines were used to allow greater freedom of movement and to also add to the slightly dishevelled look which gives a slight nod to romance. Embroideries were made standout and twinkling.

Ralph and Russo
Pastel colours along with the odd black item were all over the collection and perfectly embodied the ethos of the brand. Fully embracing femininity, everything was covered in Chantilly lace, feathers, chiffon and silk. Also, the inclusion of pearls and crystals were used to adorn the 3m train of the bridal gown.

Giambattista Valli
Inspired by the gardens in Paris, flowers are included in pretty much every piece, weather embroidered with sequins, printed onto gathered chiffon or made from crystals. The majority of hemlines were made shorter, but still classy and a lot of ruffle detail was added to the longer gowns.

Day 3

Chanel
Centred around a Japanese doll house and garden, it was a celebration of nature and consisted of a lot of beige and browns. The main focus was on suits with fitted jackets and oval sleeves and lady-like length hems. There was also an influx of capes which were attached to both dresses and suits.

Yania Couture
Ballet inspired dresses were brought to the runway for this collection, including that of the white swan. Neutral colour palette was used throughout to match the inspiration, including hair being tied back by a chiffon scarf adorned with gems.

Giorgio Armani Prive
Lilac was the recurring theme of the runway show, along with sheer fabrics to give an ultra feminine look. Huge ruffles and hand sown embroidered ribbons were also on show along with bustier dresses adorned with Swarovski crystals and sequins.

Day 4

Elie Saab
A mix of explorer chic with the use of accessories and boots and Edwardian lace/crochet running throughout the entire collection. Natural hair and makeup made sure that all the attention was on the clothes, along with both flower crowns and embellished crowns.
