Book Review | A Bad Bad Thing by Elena Forbes

After a police operation ends in catastrophe, DCI Eve West is suspended. She faces expulsion from

the force, until John Duran - a violent criminal Eve incarcerated, still serving his sentence - offers to

help clear her name. But nothing comes without a price.

Duran wants Eve to help free a fellow prisoner, who he claims has been wrongly convicted of

murder. But as her investigation takes a dark turn, Eve finds that more than just her job is at stake,

and realises Duran is a dangerous man to trust . . .

We follow DCI Eve West after she is suspended from the police force with little hope of being reinstated in the immediate future. She is contacted by John Duran, a dangerous criminal who is guilty of murder, who states that she has been set up and, in return for her help, will give her the evidence she needs to prove it. Eve goes on a journey to find out if John Duran prison mate is really guilty of the murder of Jane McNeil and to iron out the flaw in the original investigation.

While this does go well into the racing world, Elena Forbes writes it in such a way that it's easy to follow as well as being fascinating to those who don't know much about it and, being an equestrian myself, it's nice to see the correct words and phrases used! The idea of having a strong and independent woman as the main character is perfect while still giving her that secretive side as you never really know everything about her past. She is instantly likeable as you can tell she genuinely wants to help and find the guilty party as well as wanting to save her job and in part, her name.

This really is a well crafted thriller where you never really know who is innocent and guilty, meaning you do not want to put this book down! I really hope that Elena Forbes decides to do a sequel as I would love to know what happens next in Eve's life.
