Aerial Hoop At Polefire

Aerial arts, such as hoop, trapeze and silks have become increasingly popular over the past year or so, as they are an amazing, full body workout. You need the grace of a dancer, the flexibility of a gymnast and the strength of an athlete, but of course this is all to be gained! I went along to Polefire in Manchester to have a go at aerial hoop!

Aerial hoop is something I had wanted to try for a while as it always looks so graceful and fun, so I was so happy when my best friend Alice invited me to have a play in the hoops at Polefire, where she teaches.

One thing I will tell you is that it is so, so much fun and it makes you feel so graceful when you do a move correctly, and of course have the photo evidence! With the hoops being at different heights, it gives you the chance to learn a move being relatively close to the ground and it being less intimidating, before moving on and of course their are mats around in case you do fall. It's all part of it if you do, along with getting your leg/arm stuck and forgetting where to put it - yes this did actually happen, along with missing the hoop completely when I jumped up to sit in it! I was so surprised with how much I could actually do, as some of the moves require you to literally hang off the hoop, but I can't for the life of me remember any of the names of the moves, but they look good right?!

While you are at Polefire, you feel safe on the equipment, as you know there are the huge, chunky mats around and also they do know what they are talking about. I may be a bit biased in saying that but Alice has been trained by everyone there and I felt safe while hanging from a hoop!

It really is a full body workout and you don't really feel it too much until the day after when you feel it in every muscle. Personally. I love this feeling and you know it is doing so much good to your body and if you carry on, you will soon tone up and get stronger, especially in your upper body. Expect bruises, especially behind your knee, as this is where you will be using to sit and hold onto the hoop, so leggings are essential, along with leg warmers if you feel like you need the extra protection.

Along with aerial hoop, Polefire also has lessons in aerial silks, pole fitness and pole dancing, so there is something for everyone and of every ability, so if you are looking to try something different and want a workout with a difference , you know where to head to! More information and class times etc can be found on their website or Facebook page.

Have you ever tried aerial hoop or any thing like this?
Love Laura x

  7. I LOVE hoop! I've been doing pole for about a year, silks for a couple of months and hoop for a couple of weeks! I just broke my ankle unfortunately but once I get back into classes I will be getting my own hoop for home. It's so addicting! Your photos are great. Keep it up and you'll progress quickly. I love that you can do just about anything on hoop!
