The Rules For Denim Care
Denim is one of the most hardworking and probably most expensive materials in our wardrobe, so it pays to know exactly how to care for your collection. Here are some top tips to keep your denim in tip-top condition and make it last a lifetime.
- To prevent fading, turn inside out and use cold water on the delicate cycle or buy had. If you wish them to fade use a hot wash only once.
- Before taking jeans to a tailor, wash twice. This is because they will always shrink in the wash.
- Raw denim (super-stiff jeans with no washes, fading, etc.) can take up to six months to break in and shouldn’t be washed until then. This is to make sure the retain their shape as they conform to your body.
- Jeans a little too tight? Leave them to air-dry and tug slightly on the waistband while they are still damp.
- Fold jeans like a pro! Lay a pair on a flat surface; fold in half from left to right. Grab the jean legs and fold them a third of the way up and repeat to the waistline.
- Don't wash denim too often - only when they are stained or start to sag.
- Add a 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to the final rinse cycle while washing to maintain the wash of your favourite pair of dark jeans.
- Always try to air dry denim items, but if you have to use a dryer, make sure they are on the lowest temperature possible and remove before completely dry. Lay flat or hang upside down to dry completely.
- To remove the smell that comes with wear, hang your jeans in the bathroom before a shower, as the damp steam will keep them fresh between washes, or freeze them in a plastic bag for two days.
I hope these tips help your denim items look amazing and last for as long as you need them! Are there any other ways you care for denim?
Love Laura x

I have always heard this thing about putting jeans in the freezer to keep them fresh but does anybody actually do that? It seems like a lot of faff compared to just chucking them in the wash.
ReplyDeleteI have tried it and it does actually work - iris quicker to put them in the wash though!
DeleteThese are good tips, I have to be honest I am pretty lazy and don't really look after my clothes well :-/ maybe I should start too so I don't spend as much!

DeleteSuch great advice, I've ruined pairs of jeans in the past by washing them too often! But I will be trying the shower trick now :)
