How To | Easy SEO Tips

SEO is a minefield and it is constantly changing/being added to. However, I do have few tips that I use and what I think are the main ones to learn and implement in every post. Not sure what it is? Read on to find out!
Quick and Easy SEO Tips for Bloggers

What exactly is SEO I hear you ask? Firstly, it stands for Search Engine Optimization and is basically how easy your blog is to find in search engines (Google etc) and how well the search engine 'reads' and understands it. By having good SEO on your blog, it will increase the amount of organic traffic you receive, but still from your target audience as it will be more 'visible' and hopefully make it stand out more. It can also make you blog more user friendly. Now for my quick and easy tips on how to use SEO in your blog!

Internal links
Internal links are basically links that go to other posts/pages within your own blog. Search engines follow the link to see what your blog is like as a whole. It can also help to reduce your bounce rate (see what I did there?!)

Website speed
How many times have you clicked on a blog and it's taken that long to load you just click off it? I know I have, so make sure your loads in a super quick time! Generally it shouldn't take more than 5 seconds.

Keywords
Make sure you include your keywords in the post title and first sentence. They should be used 3-5 times, but no more as search engines can sometimes see it a spam. Keywords are basically what you post is about and this is what people will search for. An example is this post and my keywords are 'SEO', 'Tips'.

Word count
Each post should be more than 300 words but less than 700. This shows the search engine that there is something for it to read and is less likely to see it as spam.

Alt tags to images
Alt tags tell search engines what your image is as it can't see/read it. You should include your keywords, a this is what will be searched for. You can add these by clicking on 'properties' when the image is selected.

Image name
Make sure you change every image name from the default (IMG_0967) to something that relates to the post content, for example my image is called 'SEO Tips'. This can help it to be shown in an image search. Another good place to include keywords.

Meta descriptions
This is the search description box on the right hand side in blogger and gives a description of the content in the post. It shows under the URL link in a search engine and can encourage someone to click. This is also another good place to include those keywords of yours!

Make sure your permalink says exactly what your post is about. By default, it only chooses the first few word in your post title so change it so it includes everything it should.

Link the phase
When linking to another site from a blog post, make sure you link to the actual phase and not just put 'click here'. This is because it can be 'read' by the search engine and isn't seen as spam.

Post consistently
Search engines will be able to see if your content is new and it makes it more credible and a relevant source of information if it is all up to date.

Well, there you have it, my easy SEO tips! Although these may seem like a lot to remember, the more you do them, the less you even think about it and it just becomes normal.
If there is anything else you would like tips on or anything else 'How To', them please leave any suggestion in the comments below or tweet them to me!

  7. This is a really useful post! I'm curious about the 300-700 words thing though, do you have a source for no longer than 700+ words, as I've read before that posts should be over a 1000 words, so now I'm curious! I wish I'd have known all this when I started blogging, as going back and updating all my older posts is such a chore now haha!

  9. Great tips! I'm worried that my blog might be one of those annoying ones that take over five seconds to load so I'm going to look into that. I love that you included lots of easy-to-change tips rather than scary technical tips.

  17. Hi Laura,
Great tips shared here, but sad to note that some of the things mentioned in the list can't apply it in bloggerspot blogs. That will be suitable only for WP platforms. I still wonder how come you use blogspot pages.
